Plans for Knoxville
Indya’s first term has been filled with progress and the best is yet to come! We need to keep Knoxville moving towards a more equitable, connected, sustainable, future. Indya and her team will keep the momentum going. Read below about her plans for the next four years.
Public Safety
- Decrease violent crime and violent deaths in our city.
- Recruit, train and retain more police officers to reach our fully authorized force.
- Give our first responders the best training and equipment to keep us safe.
- Fully train and deploy Turn Up Knox, our street violence interruption team.
- Implement ABLE, Active By-standership for Law Enforcement, and other innovations and best practices to optimize effectiveness and accountability for our police department.
- Open the new, state of the art Public Safety Complex that includes a much needed mental health urgent care center.
- Initiate a program in which KFD paramedics partner with social workers to engage in follow up treatment for survivors of drug overdose.
Housing and Neighborhoods
- Complete the transformation of Western Heights.
- Complete the construction of First Creek at Austin.
- Support the construction of more housing and walkable neighborhoods.
- Fulfill our pledge to allocate at least $50M towards affordable housing.
- Continue to support and help fulfill the mission of the African American Equity Restoration Task Force.
- Invest in maintenance of existing infrastructure (streets, parks, greenways, sidewalks, stormwater systems) and strategically develop new infrastructure.
A Clean and Resilient Future
- Continue taking concrete steps to reduce the city’s carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.
- Add more EVs to our city’s fleet.
- Add more public Electric Vehicle Charging stations across the city.
- Incentivize and support walkable and public transit-oriented developments.
- Implement the proposals of KAT Re-Imagined.
- Improve our tree canopy.
- Promote and incentivize smart growth.
Economic Opportunity
- Ensure completion and utilization as promised of the multi-use stadium.
- Welcome the Smokies and professional baseball back to Knoxville.
- Welcome One Knox, Knoxville’s professional soccer team, to play their home games at our new multi-use stadium.
- Continue and grow the accessibility of KUB broadband across the city.
- Invest in the growth, maintenance, and connectivity of our parks, greenways, and trails in every part of the city.
- Make Knoxville an innovation hub for clean energy, in partnership with entrepreneurs, ORNL, UT, and TVA.
- Continue to expand and support the Urban Wilderness.
- Ensure high quality of life, an essential element to attracting high quality jobs and the people to fill them.
- Adopt recommendations of Developers Roundtable to help Knoxville attract smart and sustainable investment.
